Journaling is a powerful tool that allows us to get in touch with our innermost thoughts and feelings. You can use journal prompts to get to know yourself on a deeper level and this process can help to improve self-esteem.
By writing about our experiences, we can gain clarity about what we want and how to achieve it. We can also work through tough emotions and situations, which can lead to improved self-confidence.
The more often you journal to improve self-esteem, the better your relationship with yourself will be.
What is low self-esteem?
One of the most difficult things to face in life is a lack of self-esteem and confidence. It can be hard to trust yourself and your abilities when you don’t feel good about who you are. However, it’s important to remember that everyone has periods of doubt and insecurity. The key is to be gentle with yourself and build your confidence back up.
Why do we lack self-esteem?
Self-esteem is a tricky thing. It’s something that we all want, but it can be difficult to obtain and maintain. Why is that? What makes us feel good about ourselves one day, and makes us doubt ourselves the next? And why do some people seem to have high self-esteem, while others seem to lack it altogether?
Best Journal Prompts to help Boost Self-Esteem
Here are some of my favourite journal prompts to encourage you to dig a little deeper, so that you can build the confidence that you already have inside of you.
1. What are 5 things you love about yourself?
What do you love about yourself?
Identifying the things you love about yourself can help improve your self-esteem. Listing out all of the reasons why you love and appreciate yourself is a great way to begin increasing your self-confidence, boost your spirits, and increase your overall sense of well-being.
Developing gratitude for who you are is a powerful step on the road to self-acceptance.
When you can look in the mirror and genuinely say, “I love myself,” that’s when you’ll know you’ve made true progress and start to feel more confident about yourself.
2. What are 3 things you’re proud of that you’ve accomplished?
Your personal accomplishments in life can help boost self-confidence.
Accomplishments in life act as valuable reference points. They can help us to feel confident in ourselves by showing us what we are capable of achieving. These accomplishments remind us that we are competent and capable individuals who are able to achieve great things.
When we take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments, it can give us the motivation and inspiration we need to tackle new challenges.
3. What is your definition of success?
Success means different things to different people, but one of the most important things to remember is that your definition of success is what matters.
It’s easy to get caught up in comparison traps, looking at other people’s highlight reels on social media and wondering where we went wrong. But trust me when I say that everyone has their own struggles, and you’re not seeing the whole picture.
What’s more important is how you define success for yourself. Once you identify that, it becomes much easier to work towards improving self-esteem. After all, if you trust and love yourself, you’ll be much more confident and care for yourself better than anyone else ever could.
So don’t worry about what other people value – focus on what makes YOU happy, and watch your self-esteem blossom as a result.
4. What does self-confidence mean to you?
Generally, when we think of someone who is confident, we often think of someone who is easily able to stand up in front of a crowd and speak, voice their opinions loudly without worrying about backlash, hop onto a Tik Tok or live video on Facebook without breaking a sweat.
But this is only one version of self-confidence and it is important to recognise the different ways that confidence can show up.
Are you comparing yourself to the version above of what a confident person should look like? Try to think beyond the norm of society and list out other ways that confidence shows up around you. You may not lack confidence at all…it may just be that you are not noticing the different ways that you could show up confidently in a way that suits your personality better.
5. How can you start practicing self-love today?
Self-esteem is often based on how we feel about ourselves, and by practicing self-love and self-acceptance, we can help to boost our own sense of self-worth. Learning to trust, love, and care for yourself can be a confidence-building experience.
When you trust and love yourself, you are more likely to believe in your own abilities and feel confident in your decisions. This trust and love will help you to feel more worthy and deserving of good things in life.
When you are gentle with yourself, you are more likely to forgive yourself for mistakes and see them as learning opportunities instead of failures. And when you take care of yourself, you send the message that you are worth taking care of- which can be a powerful confidence booster.
So if you want to feel better about yourself, start by giving yourself the love and care that you deserve.
6. If you could give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Every day, we are faced with choices that can affect our lives in both small and large ways. Some of these choices are easy to make, but others can be quite difficult. If you could give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
For me, the best advice I could ever give myself is to trust my gut instinct. Oftentimes, we second-guess ourselves because we don’t want to make a mistake. However, our gut instinct is usually right. It’s the little voice inside of us that knows what we really want or need. Listening to that voice can help boost our confidence because it reminds us that we know ourselves better than anyone else.
Of course, there will be times when our gut instinct is wrong. That’s okay! We’re only human, after all. The important thing is to trust ourselves enough to listen to our intuition and follow its guidance.
7. Who is someone who believed in you when no one else did?
It is always nice to have someone in your corner, rooting for you and believing in you even when you don’t believe in yourself. When someone trusts and loves you like that, it can help to build your confidence and self-esteem.
So what is it that made them trust and love you enough to believe in you?
Chances are, it has something to do with the qualities that make you trust and love yourself. Maybe you are a good listener or a caring friend. Maybe you are gentle and understanding or have a great sense of humor.
Whatever it is, identifying these qualities in yourself can help to build your self-esteem and give you the confidence to achieve your goals. After all, if someone else can see the best in you, why can’t you?
The First Steps to Building your Self-Esteem
It’s time to start building your self-esteem and the first step is getting to know yourself better.
This includes identifying what makes you unique and special, as well as understanding your own strengths and weaknesses. Once you have a good idea of who you are, you can begin using this knowledge to boost your self-esteem in a way that feels authentic to you.
Remember, it’s not about pretending to be someone else or copying another person’s behavior – it’s about finding what works for you and developing a style of confidence that is authentically yours.
